ELLEN NALVEN, M ED.
“PLAN|NJ is the only statewide nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities in all 21 counties of New Jersey. We offer a full range of life planning and lifetime support services for individuals who have mental health challenges, intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical limitations, or a combination of several. I educate families about the importance of life planning to promote independent living and quality of life for individuals with disabilities, and oversee the delivery of case management, advocacy and life planning services for more than 700 people. I am gratified daily by the opportunity to provide practical solutions to complex challenges, and peace of mind to people and families as they strive to enjoy life to the fullest.”
DIRECTOR OF TRUST SERVICES
“As someone who has had family members with disabilities, I can relate to the challenges and worries that families encounter personally and within social services systems. When families tell me they’re glad we exist, I feel great pleasure and pride. We welcome their sighs of relief.”
DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES
“Parents choose us because we get to know each individual to build a personal relationship. Clients see immediate improvement in the quality of their lives, and we help them get through crises in positive ways, like avoiding psychiatric hospitalization.”
“It is so gratifying to me to answer questions and resolve problems to the satisfaction of clients. As the parent of a child with a disability, this interaction is helpful to me, too. This past year has been especially challenging for some, and their voices need to be heard. It is important to understand their specific challenges. I always make a follow-up call to be sure all is well. I feel as if I am a part of the family.”
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
“Working alongside professionals who share a strong culture of service and compassion makes me incredibly proud to have a supporting role in our success. Providing the many levels of service to our stakeholders motivates each of us to maintain a positive mindset as we meet the daily challenges. To touch somebody’s life in a meaningful and lasting way is our goal each and every day.”
SENIOR SERVICE COORDINATOR
“To be given the opportunity to help increase the quality of a person’s life by providing support services and resources is an immeasurable reward.”
SOCIAL SERVICES MANAGER
“When families call PLAN|NJ for the first time, they are often feeling overwhelmed by the idea of planning for the future care of their loved one. As the first person with whom families speak, I am gratified to hear their sense of relief at finding an organization that understands their unique family situations. It is rewarding to be a part of the team who will compassionately support these families and their loved ones through the years to come.”
SENIOR TRUST COORDINATOR
“It gives me pleasure to be able to help and advocate for our clients in any way possible. It makes me happy to be able to fulfill the clients’ needs and wants and keep them happy with the services we provide. When they call and thank me for our services, it’s very rewarding.”
